STS-135 crew portrait and crew poster

The STS-135 crew portrait, the final crew portrait of the space shuttle program:

Attired in training versions of their shuttle launch and entry suits, these four astronauts take a break from training to pose for the STS-135 crew portrait. Pictured are NASA astronauts Chris Ferguson (center right), commander; Doug Hurley (center left), pilot; Rex Walheim and Sandy Magnus, both mission specialists.

STS-135, targeted for launch on June 28, 2011, is scheduled as the final mission of the space shuttle program. The flight will see space shuttle Atlantis carry the Raffaello multipurpose logistics module to deliver supplies, logistics and spare parts to the International Space Station.

The mission will also fly a system to investigate the potential for robotically refueling existing spacecraft and return a failed ammonia pump module to help NASA better understand the failure mechanism and improve pump designs for future systems.

Cool pic.

Would be neat if they would do another gag photo with a sign reading "The End" on their backs, in a nod to Gemini XII ...

Nice Photoshop work on the added mission patches. Not so good on the two class patches...

Simple but nice.

The sunset in the background reflects what will be happening to the Shuttle Program when we hear the call "Houston, Atlantis, wheels stop".

Alternatively, it's a sunrise representing a new beginning in US spaceflight....

I don't care for Goodson's official poster at all. It looks like a straight-to-DVD case cover. The last mission deserves better than that.

The crew portrait is very similar to STS-129... but I like it.

The similarities between STS-129 and STS-135 crew portraits seem to have been purposeful...

The background flags for STS-135 and STS-129 are virtually identical.

I am kind of disappointed in it. You can't even see their faces clearly and the crew members look elongated. I would have hoped that the overall scene would capture an essence or reference to the end of the program or a sense/feeling of bravery and pride that early crew portraits had.

I did, however, like the poster and the Behind the Scenes posts. Thanks Robert!

I think as long as the crew is happy, then all is well.
