Apollo 11 anniversary toys now on shelves

July 16, 1999 — Thirty years after the first mission to land men on the Moon, two toy companies have released products honoring Apollo 11 and its crew.

Hasbro, Inc. has released "Colonel Buzz Aldrin," a 12-inch action figure of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot. Part of the G.I. Joe Classic Collection, the Aldrin figure comes outfitted in snoopy cap, helmet, lunar suit, boots, and gloves.

Mattel, Inc. continued their line of realistic "Hot Wheels" space history sets with the release of the "Hot Wheels Apollo Mission Action Pack." The set includes a lunar rover, lunar module, American flag, and two astronauts.

Collectors have reported that both sets may be difficult to find in time for the anniversary celebration. However, based on past releases, both should be available through retail stores soon.
