January 29, 2026 — Tim Hortons is offering a sweet send-off for the first Canadian astronaut to fly to the moon.
The iconic Canada-based coffeehouse and restaurant chain has announced a limited-edition commemorative "Moonbits" box that will be available exclusively in London, Ontario, the hometown of Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The temporarily-rebranded and specially-packaged Timbits — bite-sized, deep-fried donut balls — will be available after NASA confirms Hansen's launch date on the Artemis II mission around the moon (possibly as soon as Feb. 8).
"We're excited to be celebrating this historic occasion with guests and the thrilling Canadian connection to this mission that we can all be so proud of," said Hope Bagozzi, chief marketing officer for Tim Hortons, in a statement.
Hansen will make history as the first Canadian and first person from a country other than the U.S. to leave low Earth orbit. Together with his three crewmates — NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch — Hansen will spend 10 days testing their Orion spacecraft "Integrity" while flying further out into deep space than any other humans have done so, surpassing the record set by NASA's Apollo 13 crew in 1970.
Tim Hortons' Moonbits 10-pack is decorated with illustrations of Timbits wearing Artemis pressure suits, as well as an Orion capsule, Earth and the moon. The box also includes information to excite customers about the milestone in international space exploration.
"Canada will make history when Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, born and raised in the London area, flies around the moon as part of Artemis II, the first crewed mission to the moon since the Apollo missions over 50 years ago. Canada will be only the second country to ever send an astronaut around the moon," reads the inscription on the 10-pack box.
For his part, Hansen will not have Moonbits or a Tim Hortons "double-double" (a coffee with two creams and two sugars) on board, but he does plan to represent Canada with some of his other food choices for the mission.
"I have some maple cookies to share with my crewmates," Hansen said in an interview with collectSPACE. "I definitely have some maple syrup that I've brought along as well."
The Moonbits box will be sold (on Earth) at participating Tim Hortons restaurants across London while supplies last. |
