T O P I C R E V I E WExplorer1A number of Gemini prime crews posed for their official crew portrait with a dish antenna behind them. I presume this antenna was at the Manned Spacecraft Center and was used by Mission Control. Is this correct? And does anyone know the size is of this antenna? Is it still around?John Glenn and Scott Carpenter also took official portraits for their Mercury missions with a dish antenna behind them. But these pictures were not at the Manned Spacecraft Center. I assume these pictures were taken at Langley or Cape Canaveral. Does anyone know where these pictures were taken and about the antenna in the background in these pictures?heng44All looks the same antenna to me and I believe it was at the Cape.MOLI believe this was a 60 ft radar tracking antenna at the Cape, which I believe no longer exists. As far as mission control in Houston, data has always been fed there from other remote sites. You would not see antennas like this located at MCC.Go4LaunchYes, it’s the radar tracking and communications antenna located near the Mercury Control Center. This is the station known as CVN in the Manned Space Flight Network.
