heng44 | Saturday December 21 to me always means: launch of Apollo 8 and the day my interest in spaceflight started. Merry Christmas everybody! |
Kite | What a day, what a photo. Thanks Ed, Merry Christmas to you, Happy New Year too. |
SPACEFACTS | My interest in space exploration started on the same day. Merry Christmas and a happy year 2020 to all. |
Ian Limbrey | This mission also began my interest in space and Christmas that year was amazingly different because of this and I was glued to the TV for the latest bulletins on the mission. |
Tom | Awesome photo, Ed! Wishing you and your family a great Holiday! |
bobslittlebro | Great photo Ed. I remember that morning watching the launch on tv. It was a saturday morning. Thanks |
East-Frisian | Have a Merry Christmas and a good New year. |
Kevin T. Randall | Ditto in all respects. Marry Christmas Ed. Keep these fantastic photos coming during 2020! |
Fra Mauro | Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Your photos always bring back memories! |
spacepete11 | Yes as others previously said this also kickstarted my interest in spaceflight, remember it well. Just an amazing photo. "What can you say about a sight like that." Thanks Ed and yes keep them coming in 2020. |
randy | I remember it well. Thanks, Ed. Merry Christmas to one and all. |
Jonnyed | 1968 was a tough year in American history, with the Vietnam war grinding on, two far-reaching assassinations (MLK Jr., Bobby Kennedy) and campus unrest, Chicago convention. Andy Warhol even got shot. Definitely a very unsettled year and this launch was a bright, positive momentous achievement in the center of all that context. A great thing. And by the way, what did Borman, Lovell, and Anders find on the Dark Side of the Moon? A British prog rock band named Pink Floyd. |
tlifan2 | Beautiful December morning. My first launch viewing -- outside the gate across from the badging facility. The start of my lifelong infatuation with manned space flight. |
Jonnyed | And don't forget (I know you didn't!) this was the very first crewed launch of the mighty Saturn V, which to this day still remains the most glorious beast of a rocket ever designed and operated. |
Ken Havekotte | Apollo 8 was my second manned spaceflight launch and first Saturn V liftoff "live" in-person. I was only 12 years old when American astronauts first went to the moon. It was an amazing week here on the Florida Space Coast and I can't believe its been 51 years ago! Apollo was about to change my life forever from that year forward, but at the time, I really had no idea of how my future would be so impacted in a way that I would have never expected. |
ManInSpace | Merry Christmas sir and thank you for sharing your collection. Opening the new photo each week is something I always look forward to. |
kosmo | Apollo 8 to this day is/was my favorite mission and happened at my favorite time of year. Apollo 8 also happens to be the mission I'm most interested in collecting to this day. Merry Christmas! |
Lou Chinal | This is what a rocket take off should look like. |
