heng44 | Forty years ago this week, three Grumman technicians had their photo taken in the cramped cabin of LM-6 (destined for Apollo 12). The LM was already stacked on top of the Saturn 5 launch vehicle (AS-507) inside the VAB and was undergoing final inspection prior to rollout of the stack to the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center. East-Frisian | They look a little bit proud. |
ejectr | In this picture, the LEM looks almost spacious. |
Max Q | is it just me or do the Artificial Horizons not read the same. |
ilbasso | The guy on the left is bigger. He's weighing down the LM more on that side, causing the thin cabin floor to buckle and the Commander's FDAI ball to show more tilt on that side! Seriously, this answers a question in the LM-2 restoration thread as to how strong the cabin floor was in the LM. (Someone wondered if it would be strong enough to support a man at 1G.) It's obviously strong enough to support at least three men at 1G. ------------------ Jonathan Ward Blogging at http://jonathan-spacejunk.blogspot.com |
Michael Davis | Maybe not. I'm assuming that they had supports and protective gear in the LM prior to launch to avoid someone doing damage. That would probably include a "walkway" on the floor. I'm guessing clearing that was among the last things to do prior to sealing the LM for launch. |
fartner | I think something does not fit in this picture. The three man are much to short. If the left worker (with glasses) on CDR's working place turns 180 degrees he could not look out through the landing window. Are they on their knees? Frederic Artner, Vienna |
dtemple | Evidently there is room for FOUR people; someone had to take the photo. |

That's an electric gyro for you. You never know where it will end up when it stops spinning. |

Maybe they used Pete and Al's smuggled shutter release timer! |
Delta7 | "Upon initial hatch opening and inspection of Intrepid, the sheepish faces they discover make Pete and Al come to the acute realization that NASA needs to change it's work schedule calendar!" |
ASCAN1984 | The Apollo 12 crew (in disguise) inspect LEM 6 that will be used on their flight. From the left Pete Conrad, Al Bean and Dick Gordon (I think this order is closest to what they look like in real life). |
Max Q | How did Pete Conrad get accepted if he wore glasses? Oh, I guess he wore contact lenses. |
ASCAN1984 | Stu: Jack, Dave? Jack and Dave: Yeah Stu? Stu: Since we are dwarfs in this photo do you think we can hide and go to the moon? Jack: Stu? Stu: Yeah Jack? Jack: Don't be a moron. Dave: Yeah Stu. Grumman has some smart people. What happened to you?Later in the flight when Pete is about to step onto the surface he notices two faces at the window and thinks he must be seeing things. |
E2M Lem Man | Seriously, isn't one of those guys Bob Carbee? You would think I would know, wouldn't you?

Apollo Redux | Nice to see the men behind the machines. |
