heng44 | Thirty-five years ago, Apollo 17 thundered into the Florida night to begin the final lunar landing mission. Gene Cernan, Ron Evans and Jack Schmitt explored the Taurus-Littrow area and after their safe return to earth, the long wait began. It is time we go back to the moon… Ed Hengeveld |
Michael Davis | Yet another wonderful photo that I have not seen before. Now this would make a very nice large format image for framing. This really brings back memories, thank you. |
East-Frisian | Apollo 17, one of the first stars in human spaceflight? It seems that there were spotlights like for a popstar. Great photo. The Eastfrisian |
KSCartist | I thought you all might enjoy an old picture. It was taken next to the VAB on Dec 6th, 1972. The guy on the left is my Dad and the other guy (an idiot in polyester sports coat and pants) is me at 16 years old. We were invited by NASA to view the launch. The blurry image in the background is the Apollo/Saturn V of Apollo 17. It was a great trip and a very special memory I shared with my Dad. I moved to Titusville with my wife and daughter in 1991 in hopes of working at KSC. The closest I came was to work part-time for TW Recreational Services at "Spaceport USA." This picture is of the two of us twenty years later (1992) in the Rocket Garden for an article in the employee newspaper. Sadly my Dad passed away three years later. But Apollo 17 was always "our mission." Tim |
Tom | Tim: Great photos and I'm sure, fond memories for you as well! I have similar stories of my Dad who took me to see the Apollo 15 launch in 1971. You can't buy memories like that... Thanks for sharing. |
