Robert Pearlman | Soyuz TMA-07M: mission viewing, questions, comments This thread is intended for comments and questions about the Soyuz TMA-07M mission and the updates published under the topic: Soyuz TMA-07M mission to the space station. TMA-07M will launch three crew members for the Expedition 34 crew on board the International Space Station: Roscosmos cosmonaut Roman Romanenko, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Chris Hadfield, and NASA astronaut Thomas Marshburn. TMA-07M will be the 116th flight of a Soyuz spacecraft since its first flight in 1967.

irish guy | Got to meet Col Hadfield at the STS-135 launch where he freely mingled with everyone. |
Lasv3 | Watching the photos from the launch I noticed two things I did not see before: Astronauts had a kind of overall put on the regular Sokol suit when walking out of the crew readiness building and stepping the launch pad elevator and they did not carry the usual portable air-condition units. Does anybody know any details/explanations? I might have missed these changes with earlier launches but I do not think so... |
KSCartist | I noticed that as well. They were a garment to keep the crew warm from the cold. Maybe they didn't need the portable a/c units. Remember last year when the Expedition 29 crew launched, they wore a blue tarp like wrap. These were much more fashionable. |
Robert Pearlman | Yesterday was the first use of these thermal oversuits, which fit over the Sokol and was produced by the same company as the pressure suit, NPP Zvezda. It was frigid (arctic) cold at Baikonur, and so the crew was able to forgo the cooling units as well.

Lasv3 | Thanks for the explanation! |
Hart Sastrowardoyo | Which leads to the questions: What's the coldest temp that a Soyuz can be launched? What was the coldest temp that one has been launched? |
hoorenz | I think TMA-03M qualifies! |
hoorenz | A very nice amateur video of the launch as seen from Karaganda. |
Jay Chladek | Looks like the crew has had a safe touchdown at 9:31 PM central time. |
LM-12 | Why is JSC PAO so slow to post any TMA-07M landing photos? The crew landed three days ago. |
Robert Pearlman | Landing imagery is generally posted to NASA Headquarters' Flickr account first. Soyuz TMA-07M landing photos are here. |
LM-12 | Thanks for that faster link, Robert. |
