spacemal | Has anyone seen launch images taken by the camera at the top of the launch umbilical tower (LUT) for Apollo 4, 8, 9, 10, and 13, as well as Skylab 1 (workshop) and 2 (Conrad's crew) and ASTP? In my many years of following the U.S. spaceflights I have never seen still images for these flights taken by this camera. |
LM-12 | This interesting video from Spacecraft Films is about the LUT camera installed for the Apollo 13 launch. At what level did that flying beam come to rest? |
Space Cadet Carl | The Apollo 17 night launch as seen from the 360 foot level of the LUT. This photo was considered "lost" for many years, until it was rediscovered several years ago by Kipp Teague at the Apollo Image Archive. |
Paul78zephyr | That is a great shot.

Yes on Skylab 2 and ASTP. |
spacemal | Are you able to scan them and post copies here? |
LM-12 | Apollo 15 launch photo KSC-71PC-560 is a nice view of the F-1 engines at camera level. |
J.L | Yes, there is a color version in the book "Moonshots and Snapshots". |
LM-12 | The black and white striped area seen on fairing B is a first motion target. |
LM-12 | Photo 70-HC-351 shows Apollo 13 on the pad during the CDDT which was on March 25-26, 1970. The Skylab 2, 3 and 4 LUT launch photos can be seen in this album. |
Jonnyed | Fantastic video clip and photos. Thanks. |

Wasn't it from the 360-foot level of the LUT? |
LM-12 | Here is a link to the ASTP launch photo from the LUT camera. |

Ah, good catch! I forgot that the length of the F-1 engine bells actually sat below the zero foot level of the LUT. So... yes. I've often regretted not being at that night launch. It must have been incredible. |
spaceheaded | I can vouch for that night launch being incredible in person! |
LM-12 | Apollo 16 photo KSC-72P-82 gives a good view of several cameras on the LUT. |
