T O P I C R E V I E Wrwhite502This photograph shows an overall view of the Mission Control Center (MCC), Houston, Texas, during the Gemini 5 flight. I've never noticed pictures of the pen plotters in front of the trench like this before. Were they always there for Gemini missions? Wouldn't they block the front row from seeing the big screens up front? I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures of these recorders off to the sides of mission control.bruceNot sure about the plot screens, but it looks like Ms. Kranz brought Gene a slice of cherry pie to go with his lunch, albeit a few consoles away (see bottom center left of photo)!ObviousmanIs that on top of the FAO's console? I think the FD console is out of shot, to the left.Sy LiebergotMy FDO friend told me: The plotboards were used to monitor launch/launch abort parameters such as Velocity vs. Flight Path Angle, Altitude vs. Downrange. Limit lines were on the boards for calling aborts. They were initially used in the Mercury Control Center, then in Houston until we developed confidence in the 10 x 20 displays. After a couple of flights in Houston, they were moved into the SSR and still used for backup in case the 10 x 20s failed. Hope this helps.ilbassoThis photograph shows an overall view of the Mission Control Center (MCC), Houston, Texas, during the Gemini 5 flight. Actually, it looks like it was just before the Gemini V flight... one of the overhead projector screens reads "T-4 min."rwhite502Sy, thank you for the information. I know where I've seen these plotboards before - there are three set up in the Mercury Mission Control exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center. robertsconleyDoes anybody have documentation how read the plots they produced? It would help me in my Project Mercury Simulator: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 4In fact any scanned or printed document would help as information is sparse on this topic. Mercury or Gemini I can use both. These are from a test run using a hookup with Orbiter Space Simulator: 1 | 2 Anything is appreciated, thanks.
