T O P I C R E V I E WRobert PearlmanAnyone watching the History Channel series "Eating History," new this season? Food expert Old Smokey and collector Josh Macuga are two friends on a quest to uncover, unbox and eat the old and unique foods that have survived history; they explore history through old food and discover why some foods have stood the test of time. The first episode, "A Space Odyssey" featured a space shuttle-flown package of freeze-dried potatoes au gratin. Of course, Old Smokey and Josh are not the first to try old space food in the name of producing good television. Larry McGlynn and I did the same in an episode of "Space Dealers." I think the "Eating History" hosts came to the same conclusions as Larry and I did about the taste.Larry McGlynnRobert, you soothed the savage beast that day. I spent two and half hours waiting for the film crew to show up. The delay coupled with the fact that I was chased around by a crazy restaurant manager who wouldn't leave me alone had me in a foul mood. You lightened up the mood and we had a good time eating mashed potatoes and green beans with mushrooms. They weren't bad. Thanks for keeping me sane during the filming.
