4allmankindA great piece. You did a terrific job, Robert.

I'm curious for your opinion on Anderson's story of the $10,000 deal for his spacesuit. Is that an offer you've heard from other recent space travelers as well? That was really something!

cosmic_buffaloGreat piece, nice to see Robert and space collecting on tv.
Robert PearlmanThanks guys.

Not so much from recent travelers, but I have heard similar accounts from others who have flown with the Russians in the past. The self-funded spaceflight participants are, for example, assessed an additional fee to retain their Sokol suits.

The "interesting" thing about Clay's case, and others like it, is that NASA does pay for those suits to be fabricated (either in the form of actual payments or as part of a barter for services rendered), but the space agency has never been able to retain ownership of those suits post-flight.

bruceNice job, Robert!
jtheoretGood story.
rjurek349Well done, Robert -- and a great clip!
Ken HavekotteEnjoyed the feature very much, Robert, and good to see some familiar space artifacts being depicted.

Too bad Clayton and others cannot retain their own flown Sokol spacesuits after their Soyuz and ISS visits, however, was there not a contract of any sort signed by them and the Russian space agencies that provided for their post-flight suit ownerships once paid for?

SkyMan1958Good going Robert!

The contract for astronauts' flights like Anderson's is between Roscosmos and NASA, not with the individual astronaut. For whatever reason, Russia retains ownership of the Sokol suits.
james f. ruddyRobert, thank you for the information on Al Jazeera, and for all the help you give to space collectors.
mach3valkyrieGreat job, Robert. Thanks for the link.
Larry McGlynnRobert, great job.

That was actually a good video story on space collectibles. I was at the RR Auction for the Ford sale. While the majority of the bidding was done via internet and phone, the bidding was spirited.

Pete Conrad's cuff checklist sold for $1.3M back in 2001 at the height of the market. It was bought by a gentleman from Seattle and, I believe, currently resides at the Museum of Flight.

It was interesting to see a balanced article on space collecting.

mode1charlieThat was a good piece: respectful and not snarky. Congrats, Robert - well done.

Hey Larry, I saw you for about one second in the background in the RR Auction segment.
