T O P I C R E V I E WGordon ReadeHow big a deal is the NASA Group Achievement Award anyway? Can anyone tell me how many people are awarded it each year?Robert PearlmanNASA's own description of the award reads as follows: quote:Group Achievement Award (Government employees and non-Government personnel) - A team award given to a group of Government employees or a group comprised of both Government employees and non-Government personnel for outstanding accomplishment through the coordination of many individual efforts which has contributed substantially to the NASA mission, with explicit consideration given to: the quality of results and the level of impact on NASA programs or operations;effective management of cost and schedule;customer satisfaction;team growth and capacity for future contribution; andadditional credit for development of innovative approaches, use of and contributions to lessons learned data banks, and/or success in responding to unforeseen crises. While I wasn't able to find out how many awards are given out annually, I did find mention in a 2002 study, that NASA centers screened out 78 nominations for the group award in a one year period.Gordon ReadeThank you Robert. The funny thing is I never even heard of the award until I won it for some work I did at the Ames Research Center on the redesign of O’Hare International Airport. I guess it’s something that I should add to my resumé. So how about it? Are any other collectSPACE members proud recipients of the Group Achievement Award?HilaryI have also received Group Achievement Awards since coming to NASA a little over 4 years ago. Some of the awards come from Headquarters and others from the individual centers. I have one from HQ for my work on the MRO Navigation Team and two from MSFC for my work on aerocapture technology and exploration launch systems. They are proudly displayed in my office here at MSFC.Hilarybiker123I have a personalized NASA "Apollo Achievement Award" signed by the then Administrator Tom Paine that was presented to me after Apollo 11. Does that count in this survey?Brian R.edit: And Congratulations to Gordon & Hilary for their Award winning work!Gordon Reade quote:Originally posted by biker123:Does that count in this survey? Perhaps no monetary value but you must feel some pride in being singled out for recognition.cspg quote:Originally posted by Sy Liebergot:Sorry to say, not worth the paper they were printed on. They were only printed documents? No plaque, medal or something else "worth" keeping? Chris.Sy LiebergotThey were only a printed certificate, nothing more. They were so prevalent, it diminished any uniqueness. I always believed that it was a NASA HQ feel good thing.Sy
