Despite the best efforts of drivers in several states, I've returned home. I had to weed through my emails - I was genuinely surprised by the tremendous number of college coeds just DYING to meet me.On the Arkansas/Oklahome state line, some people dropped a dog off and split just before I came in to fuel. Naturally, I took him with me (I know it's a him because I paid the kid $5 to look). What I neglected to consider was that his status as one of those foo-foo dogs would relate to some of the cargo I was carrying.
I went to the Cosmosphere. The folks there were really tremendous and the stuff was swell. Also, I made a special stop in Weatherford OK at the General Thomas P. Stafford Museum. The people there (both of 'em) were just the best. However, I was surprised to learn the local gentry had absolutely no clue who Gen Stafford is.
I would have banged into Edwards AFB to see what was at Dryden, but honestly the people in that area seemed unfriendly so I just split for Las Vegas.
While in LV I spent WAY too much on junk at the Liberace museum. I skipped the Wizard of Oz stuff they were selling at a Kansas Welcome Center. Of course if the car rolled people would get the wrong idea if I was found buried in Liberace AND Judy Garland stuff. All I would have needed then was a Streisand CD playing and my ticket stub to "Brokeback Mountain" in my pocket.
Anyhow, people should get to the Cosmosphere (even if it's a bit hard to find) and the General Thomas P Stafford museum, if only to say hello to the good folks at each.
Oh, yeah, the dog's name is now "Foo-Foo".
