4allmankind | I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to find in-flight or in-cabin photos from STS-6? Thanks very much- Jay |
kyra | Hi Jay, Try the JSC Digital Image collection mirror site at KSC for STS-6. http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/mirrors/images/html/STS6.htm These are the only two images I have ever seen in the cabin for this flight: STS-006-03-381 STS-006-06-456 Story working the CFES and Paul Weitz and Don Peterson looking at the checklist while eating. Oddly, I have a big three ring binder of stuff for this flight alone, and in the 23 years since these are all I have ever seen in the cabin. I hope to see more as well. Kyra |
4allmankind | Thank you so much! Jay |
WSTFphoto | For in-flight, S06-10-417 shows Musgrave and Peterson as they float about in the cargo bay of the Shuttle. |
november25 | Hi Kyra Thanks for the pics you posted above. As being a fan of Story, have met him on several occasion.Plus the rest of the STS6 team. Think they are known as [F TROOP] in a certain photo- blowing their trumpets. Such a great team they made. Thanks again, all ther best to you regards from Brenda |
kyra | Hi Brenda! This flight was a personal favorite, as it was the first that I was old enough to understand and appreciate (and collect).I even have a microfiche copy of the "Orbit Ops" checklist that Don Peterson and Paul Weitz are looking at ! (As well as this missions Crew Activity Plan, EVA C\L and Cue Cards) They are quite a crew, I agree ! And with Story along, I'm sure no stone was left unturned ! I remember Don Peterson's comment that Story "was like a 150 pound hamster" preparing the EVA gear before the other astros were awake. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm on this one. Kyra |
gliderpilotuk | Jay, there is a great shot taken out of the starboard front window as the shuttle is on finals at Edwards. Paul Weitz showed it when he came to the BIS and he claimed Story must have undone his straps to get the shot! I've searched for it but can't find it. This website has a "piece" of the photo (R-H of the 2 top photos). http://www.fourth-millennium.net/space-exploration/space-exploration-first-challenger-landing.html Let me know if you find itPaul Bramley

MCroft04 | "Paul Weitz showed it when he came to the BIS and he claimed Story must have undone his straps to get the shot! I've searched for it but can't find it." If you've read Story's biography, apparently he has a thing for unstratpping before and during launch to look around. |

Paul, that is the complete photo. I have a print and it looks the same. Ed Hengeveld |
gliderpilotuk | Thanks Ed. Is there a reference number? Paul

kyra | This is the one: http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/mirrors/images/images/pao/STS6/10061106.jpg It also appeared in "Life in Space" the coffee table album that appeared around 1983 (NASA's 25th). I didn't include this one, because I thought Jay wanted in-flight photos of in-cabin activities. Kyra |

I'm at work now, Paul. I will check the NASA ID when I get home. Ed |
heng44 | Paul, the NASA photo ID is STS006-46-667. Ed |
gliderpilotuk | Brilliant - thanks Ed. As a glider pilot I'm fascinated by the steepness of the approach in the world's largest and fastest glider!Paul |
november25 | Dr Story Musgrave is a legend when it comes to taking pictures from his 6 Space Shuttle Flights. There are so many brillant shots of the universe, and with Story being a very keen photographer-no wonder they call him the renowned shuttle astronaut. Having many of his pictures on the www.spacestory.com site. Lovely views-greatly appreciated. Thanks this was posted by november25 |
