T O P I C R E V I E WRizzThis might be old news but I just bought a CD called "Liftoff!"The shuttle launches were recorded with such extreme high quality digital sound - I thought the windows were going to fall off my house. What an incredible experience! If you've ever or even never, witnessed a shuttle launch, you gotta get a copy of this to listen to. Invite some friends over and make sure the neighbors aren't home.Aloha BLACKARROWSounds very impressive, but with a reasonable sound system (bass turned up high) I can still make the windows rattle and the floor vibrate with a 27-year-old non-digital recording of the launch of the Apollo-Soyuz Saturn IB. I was about as close as any member of the public, almost due west of Pad 39B, and the sound hit like a thunderclap, exactly 16 seconds after engine ignition. (For the first time since the launch in 1975, I have just done a quick calculation. The speed of sound at sea-level is about 1116 feet per second, so I was 3.38 miles from Pad 39B - I think that's closer than the press-site)(But I still wish it had been a Saturn 5!)JAEWhere did you buy the CD? I'd be interested in getting a copy.Thanks.JeffRizzJeff -I got a copy from The Space Store.Go to http://www.thespacestore.com/spacestore/ then click on Entertainment, then CD.There are over a half dozen launches recorded from various locations around the cape including the static road, the causeway and the Apollo/Saturn V building. Also recorded are a pair of "sonic booms", although they are not as impressive as the ones recorded on The Dream is Alive DVD.Have fun. Its a blast![This message has been edited by Rizz (edited June 26, 2002).]
