T O P I C R E V I E WLou ChinalI would like to announce a Mercury Leather Name Tag Project. I plan to reproduce the name tags of all seven astronauts as they appeared on the pressure suits. The name tags will be embossed on leather in silver just as the originals were. The initials of the first two names will be followed by the last name. M. S. CARPENTERL. G. COOPERJ. H. GLENNV. I. GRISSOMW. M. SCHIRRAA. B. SHEPARDD. K. SLAYTON The name tags will be mounted on a silver color background similar to the suit material. Included will be the NASA meatball with a white border. The meatball will be furnished by KSCartist (Tim Gagnon). "JR" did not appear until Gemini, and Apollo only the last name was used during the moon landing days. The whole display will be 11x14 inches.I'm taking orders starting now through Aug. 31, 2011, with an expected delivery date of around Feb. 20, 2012.The price will be $200, with shipping to Europe extra. I will hold all checks until I have at least 50 orders, if I don't get at least 50 your check will be returned to you.Embossing is a expensive process. I plan to have a plate made up as close as possible to the original in size and lettering. In consulting with Tim Gagnon and Jorge Cartes I do not believe this has ever been offered to the public before.garymilgromSounds like a beautiful piece Lou (and Tim).
