T O P I C R E V I E WspgrissomHappy birthday, Gus. (4/3/1926)rjurek349I was just in Mitchell last week, spent a couple of days in the Spring Mill State Park lodge, toured the Pioneer Village, and visited the Grissom Memorial. That is a nice little museum in the heart of a wonderful and beautiful state park -- a very nice tribute to the Man from Mitchell. Happy birthday Gus!spacecraft filmsHappy Birthday Gus. Having just finished the Apollo 1 DVD I spent much of today archiving everything and finishing up my last chores to finish out Apollo 1 and make sure all the work was protected. How appropriate. A few weeks ago on an archives trip to DC I went by Arlington and spent a few minutes near Gus and Roger. It was cold, just like it must have been in late January of 1967. MarkspgrissomWe are working on the musuem. Betty Grissom has been working with us to add exhibits to it. The display at the top of the stairs has not been on display very long. I am hoping to be able to obtain more artifacts that belonged to Gus and add them to the displays. I am glad you enjoyed it. rjurek349 quote:Originally posted by spgrissom:I am glad you enjoyed it. Oh, very much so. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Rather surprising the impact it makes in the serene setting of the state park. The flown helmets, gloves, GT-3 suit, GT-3 capsule, and Betty's private memorabilia were a delight to experience. The mini-movie was not bad, either, with the reflections of Gus' family and his life story being particularly enjoyable. It was a pleasure to leave behind a little donation, and I encourage all who see it to do likewise to support this great tribute to Gus. We were actually heading down to Marengo Cave, and I insisted on the stop-by. The whole family enjoyed it, and we discovered to our great pleasure Spring Mill State Park, and decided to spend a couple days there. I do hope that you can add to the collection - it'd give me a great excuse to head back down there! KSCartistLike the brave souls that "discovered" the new world and explored the western frontier, the Original 7 were pioneers. Why, because they were first to do what they did. Gus Grissom's contribution will never be forgotten as long as there are who remember the past and dream outward.Happy Birthday Colonel. Remember-TimE2M Lem ManGus was a big hero to me growing up. I had just missed the whole crew one day in 1966 when they were in Long Beach at the local college down the street from North American in Downey. They were, I believe playing tennis. The Col. had sent to me a photo and some autographed (autopen) cards I received two weeks before the fire. They were with a letter from the NASA PAO. He had class.Happy Birthday, Gus.
