Photos: Space shuttle Atlantis' final move to NASA visitor complex

November 2, 2012

— Space shuttle Atlantis, NASA's final museum-bound retired orbiter, departed on a day-long delivery from the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at the Kennedy Space Center, Fla., to the center's nearby visitor complex, where its new $100 million exhibit building is under construction.

The slow, 9.8 mile (15.8 kilometers) trip atop NASA's 76-wheel Orbiter Transporter System (OTS) will take Atlantis past Kennedy's Headquarters building and include a three-hour stop at Exploration Park, an industry park outside Kennedy's security gates, where the public who purchased tickets will have an opportunity to see and walk around the shuttle.

collectSPACE will be updating this gallery as Atlantis completes its final journey.

See shuttles.collectspace.com for coverage of the delivery and display of NASA's space shuttles.
