— Space shuttle Atlantis, NASA's final museum-bound retired orbiter, departed on a day-long delivery from the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at the Kennedy Space Center, Fla., to the center's nearby visitor complex, where its new $100 million exhibit building is under construction.

The slow, 9.8 mile (15.8 kilometers) trip atop NASA's 76-wheel Orbiter Transporter System (OTS) will take Atlantis past Kennedy's Headquarters building and include a three-hour stop at Exploration Park, an industry park outside Kennedy's security gates, where the public who purchased tickets will have an opportunity to see and walk around the shuttle.
