I was just wondering why there is no special magazines or DVDs about the recent Artemis II spaceflight? Usually, when a major event occurs or a notable person does something noteworthy there are magazines on the newsstands within weeks and DVD specials about them and/or the event. Is the Artemis II mission considered not important enough? |

I am wondering about this also.Aviation Week did not have much when compared to their coverage of the Apollo 8 flight. Sky and Telescope had only one page devoted to Artemis II ... so far. I have no idea what, if anything, National Geographic magazine will have. Their May 1969 article about Apollo 8's mission is still one of the best I have ever read. Also, I am waiting to see if NASA publishes something about the analysis of photography and visual observations of Artemis II, like what they did for the Apollos 8 and 10 missions (NASA SP-201 and 232). I am really curious about what scientists gleaned from the observations made by the Artemis II crew. |

There was the international edition of TIME with the crew on the cover.National Geographic is producing "Return to the Moon," a multi-year television and print series leading up to and through the first return of astronauts to the lunar surface. There were National Geographic cameras aboard the Artemis II mission, collecting exclusive footage for the series. There is also: - "Artemis II: Return to the Moon" (NOVA / PBS): This hour-long documentary covers the preparations and engineering challenges of overcoming deep-space human flight from launch to splashdown. You can stream the episode for free via the PBS NOVA YouTube Channel.
- "Artemis: To the Moon and Back" (BBC / Discovery): A privileged, in-depth look inside NASA featuring the crew, engineers, and mission directors. It can be streamed on HBO Max and on BBC iPlayer.
- "Artemis II: Mission to the Moon" (ABC News): A special news documentary highlighting the historic spaceflight, available on Disney+.

I have also been thinking about this. I have a copy of "Time" with the Artemis II crew on the cover and I wondered whether I had missed the copy with extensive mission coverage and photography. I gather from the above comments that there has been no "extensive mission coverage" after the actual mission. What possesses a publisher to think it more important to tell readers about something that is GOING to happen than to tell them about the successful mission that HAS happened? (This isn't something confined to spaceflight. It happens all the time in journalism, where the term "news" seems to have a very flexible meaning.) | |
