During the life-time of the Russian space station Mir, dozens of NASA astronauts visited and spent some time there. But seven astronauts, referred to as resident astronauts, each spent between 4 to 6 months aboard, for a total of 975 days.

The seven American resident astronauts were, in order, Norman Thagard, Shannon Lucid, John Blaha, Jerry Linenger, Michael Foale, David Wolf and Andy Thomas.

This photo of Mir in orbit, taken by the STS-79 crew, was signed by the seven NASA resident astronauts. On STS-79, Lucid was replaced by Blaha, after Lucid set an American record of 188 days in space.

This impressive Mir photo was signed by six NASA astronauts who visited Mir, with unfulfilled plans to have it signed by many more.

Mailing off material (photos/covers) to be multi-signed by astronauts can be rewarding and enjoyable, but expensive and with the danger that everything being lost if not returned for various reasons. Obviously, these two multi-signed photos made it safely back to me a number of times.

All times are CT (US)
