Back in 1978, NASA welcomed 35 new astronaut candidates of Group 8 for flights on the yet-to-fly Space Shuttle. All of these "Thirty Five New Guys" flew at least one shuttle mission, with one flying six. Their group included minorities, the first six female astronauts and, sadly, also included four of the astronauts that perished on Challenger. As far as autographs, these 35 astronauts provided collectors with plenty of autographs through the years, including all 35 signing these two sheets together. NASA provided the litho picturing all 35 and they all provided their autographs to this one. And the NASA/JSC stationary sheet served as an appropriate item to also have signed by all 35. Astronaut autograph cooperation continued for many years and included many other NASA astronaut groups, but with the last two to three, autograph cooperation has declined greatly and results such as these from 1978 are a thing of the past. |
