Does anyone know if the first woman to walk in space, Svetlana Savitskaya, might ever consider doing a signing. My understanding is that she is reluctant to do such a signing. Does anyone have any information about how to reach her? |

I don't wish to spoil your idea, but Ms. Savitskaya is more annoyed by autograph signing than any of the cosmonauts! If you were to gain the clout and connections to organize such an event, the price per autograph would be higher than the market would support to satisfy what she would likely want. All this is IMHO, of course, based on studies of the female cosmonaut groups and stories of SS and collectors. The good news is her autograph does turn up for time to time for under a hundred dollars. It is rare, but not in high demand in comparison to more famous cosmonauts or US Astronauts from the M-G-A era. She moves about in circles of the Russian elite today. You could try the Star City address as a long shot. |

To second previous poster's statement but in one aspect: I have not heard of many through the mail response from Star City from Svetlana Savizkaya. She is not very accomodating (to put it politely) in person either. ------------------ Jrgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |

Several months ago I raved about the Association of Space Explorers posters, signed by cosmonauts and astronauts at their annual congresses. (I ended up buying VII and IX.) I just checked the ASE website to see if Svetlana Savitskaya signed any, and sure enough she signed VIII and X. The X poster is $225. I know that a lot of people dont like posters for autograph examples because of their size, but these are signed in-person by an incredible number of history-making space travelers. Here are some of the other names on the X poster: Alexei Leonov, Oleg Makarov, Valentina Tereshkova, Gherman Titov, Buzz Aldrin, Scott Carpenter, Bruce McCandless II, Stuart Roosa, Tom Stafford, Norm Thagard and Toyohiro Akiyama (named by CollectSPACE as one of the 15 rarest space autographs). I believe that $225 is about half the total amount those signatures individually sell for at signings or dealer catalogs. (Savitskayas was just described in this thread as being close to a hundred dollars.) And thats just a sample of the 67 who signed it. http://www.space-explorers.org/congress/posters/poster10.html Steve

Thanks.I actually went ahead and ordered the print. I'm still interested in working with others to arrange a signing (I know this is next to impossible -- but what's lost by trying). I'm continuing to try and amass famous "first" signatures and this would be another important one. Best David | |
