The second in a series of second generation Bion-M science satellites is now being prepared for launch at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The satellite has its legacy in the Zenit 2M and Yantar satellites, but more broadly shares its history with the Vostok spacecraft that famously flew the first human into space.
The Bion-M No. 2 launch is scheduled for Wednesday (Aug. 20) at 1:13 p.m. EDT (1713 GMT).
