'Apollo 13' re-launching into IMAX theaters for 30th anniversary in September

Houston, we have a 30th anniversary re-release.

"Apollo 13," Universal Pictures' 1995 movie about NASA's "problem"-ridden 1970 mission to the moon, will be returning exclusively to IMAX theaters in September. The full-length film is being presented in giant-screen format for the first time.

Will the re-release be also in 3D-4DX?

The release is only in IMAX format.

The list of theaters playing the movie is now available here.

"Apollo 13" opens in IMAX tomorrow (Sept. 19) and runs through Sept. 25.

Participating theaters will be giving out an IMAX "Apollo 13" 30th anniversary poster to those who see the film (while supplies last).

I will have to "make do" with my newly-purchased 4K copy of "Apollo 13."

I finally went to see the re-release yesterday and it was amazing; what a way to honor the late Jim Lovell (including his wife Marilyn) who made a cameo appearance.

A post from Facebook pointed out the real Gene Kranz (making a cameo appearance), right behind Ed Harris' character, during the launch scene:

Can anyone please confirm this is the real person?

I don't believe he wore glasses then.

To the best of my knowledge, Gene Kranz did not have a cameo in the film. The only real life figures to appear were Jim Lovell (as the captain aboard the recovery ship) and Marilyn Lovell (sitting in the launch viewing stands).

Other cameos were members of Ron Howard's family, including his father, mother, wife and daughter (and of course, his brother played Sy Liebergot).

As of today; "Apollo 13" is no longer in movie theaters; I'm so glad to see the re-release this past Sunday!

All times are CT (US)
