Yes sir... though I unfortunately had to depart early. Very generous of you to send the box, Ken! |

So good to see your cS-posting Jason! Theresa and I haven't seen you in so long it seems and she saw the table photo above, I believe, on Facebook, which I never have time for nor much interest in.As a side-note, it did not seem like any of the included space postal covers that were in the box shipment, located inside a smaller sealed-up box, were not on the table. I did include nearly a hundred different covers along with some rarities from all facets of space cover collecting. Hopefully they had been available at the meet. It was just recently pointed out to me the new podcast website by Jason Rubin and Rich Jurek, "Two Collectors Collecting Space," that I just saw on cS. What an excellent idea and I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode and will see others soon and show my support posting(s) as time permits.

Ken, we passed around each individual "packet" of items in the box so each person could see it and select a few items, including the box of covers. We all decided that we would use the remainder of the items in the box as "seed items" for future meet ups: We plan to bring fresh items to the next meeting to add to the box, and then to pass the box around for everyone to select from. Another member (Skipper from San Antonio) brought along a nice packet of covers for each person at the meeting, which was another nice surprise. I still have the box at my house, and it will now be a fixture at future meetings (well, we might need to transfer to a larger box!). Once again, thanks for sending the box -- it was a very big hit! |

The DFW Space Collectors Group is (finally!) getting together again! For anyone in the North Texas / South Oklahoma / West Arkansas area (or if you just think you might be able to attend once in a while when the timing works), our intent is to try to get together around three times a year. If you are not currently on the list and would like to be included, please send me an e-mail and I will hook you up. We are meeting up on Saturday, April 25th @ 10 am Central Time at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field in Dallas, TX. We planned on doing the museum last time, but we got together for lunch and never quite made it over to the museum! So we are going to start at the museum this time and then head to a local restaurant for lunch. A key part of our meet ups will involve what I have named (in keeping with the acronym-heavy lingo of aerospace) the KHBOCSS (which stands for the Ken Havekotte Box of Cool Space Stuff). Ken very kindly sent a box of space memorabilia to me before our first meeting, so now we all bring items along with us to meetings to add to the box (and of course, we all go through the box and grab a few items of interest). If anyone is interested in joining us for a fun day of checking out the museum and chatting incessantly about stuff that makes our spouses or significant others yawn and roll their eyes, please message me. I will post an after action report here after the event. Looking forward to seeing old friends and, if anyone new joins us, making some new ones. |

Event Report: The DFW Space Collectors Group got together today for a visit to the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field in Dallas, followed by lunch at Rodeo Goat (burger place). We met up at the museum at 10 am and toured around for a few hours, chatting about airplanes and space (something I seldom get to do!). Then we went to a neat little burger place for lunch. Once again, the KHBOCSS (Ken Havekotte Box of Cool Space Stuff) was a big hit. We passed the box around, a few things left the box, and some more stuff was added to the box. I'd like to send another big shout out to Ken Havekotte for getting the ball rolling on that tradition for us ... before long, I will have to transition to a larger box! We had a smaller turn out than last time (only three of us), but hopefully keeping the momentum going will lead to a more robust turn out next time. | |
