In my efforts to downsize many of my space holdings, I have a box of several old newspapers and magazines — none signed — documenting mostly space event history from the early satellite era to the Apollo era. Additionally, there are several newspapers detailing other historical events in this period. Is there a value to this? And if so, how best to offer it to collectSPACE members? Thank you. |

There is value in everything. Whether anyone at any time is willing to pay the price is another matter.I would suggest you advertise it on the Buy, Sell, Trade forum of this website with specifics. (e.g. Spaceflight Magazine no.234; New York Times entire front page Apollo 11 touchdown 21July 1969 - as opposed to old magazine and newspapers featuring space). If you have no expectations of price, then ask for reasonable offers. If you want a minimum price, state it. If you want the highest price available then you need to place them on eBay or with some other appropriate auction site. |

Try to aim your efforts on eBay at wealthy space-enthusiasts at the time they're returning home from the pub on a Friday night. But seriously, old newspapers reporting on major space events are wonderful time-capsules of the particular era. It's not just the "Man Walks on the Moon" headline and story. It's also the TV page, showing the extent of the TV coverage, and also the OTHER TV programmes in July, 1969. The advertisements are also fascinating, particularly the numerous Apollo-themed ads. Even the other news stories can be fascinating. Sen. Edward Kennedy was probably relieved to be relegated to the inside pages by Apollo 11. In short, an old newspaper headlining a major space event will also be a window into the lost world of that particular time. |

Possibly some of the most sage advice ever offered. I am going to smile all day now. |

I took on a volunteer role at a space museum dealing with donated memorabilia intake. I look for items for displaying, archiving, auctioning, or selling. Newspapers and magazines (especially shuttle era) aren't worth doing any of those things. |
