Real or fake Apollo 11 signed item? TINTIN Hergé, signed and dated, APOLLO 11 (Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins)This extremely rare, framed set features a dedication in Hergé's pen and the handwritten signatures of the three astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins of the Apollo XI program, the only ones to have entered the legend. Hergé's dedication and the astronauts' signatures have been expertly verified, and proof of provenance is included. |

I wouldn't go anywhere near this without a Steve Zarelli opinion. I've seen a lot of Tin Tin Apollo 11 crew-signed / Hergé signed pieces in major auctions in France that were 100% forgeries. There's clearly a specialist market for these in France/Belgium and there's at least one European forger willing to cash-in on that market. |

I'm not an autograph collector, and I wouldn't know a genuine Armstrong signature from a fake one. However, isn't it true that he never signed WSS photos over the American Flag? |

That "rule" only strictly applies to his 8x10 portrait (not a montage piece like this) and then was really only directed at one particular forger/style of forgery. Otherwise, it is more of guideline than a rule. That said, a quick search turned up two authentic examples of the original Apollo 11 crew-signed montage litho (without the Tin Tin alterations) and in both cases, all three crew members chose to sign above their portraits, not over them. |

To me it looks originally there were a lunar lander plaque and crew patch, where there is now the Herge piece of paper and the TinTin rocket drawing. |

There was; this is how the 11x14-inch litho was originally released by NASA (image via eBay): |
