The U.S. Postal Service will celebrate its 250th anniversary in July with a 32-page booklet, "Putting a Stamp on the American Experience" that focuses on the cultural importance of U.S. stamps. Highlighting the popular series and subjects that give the stamp program its range and depth, this booklet — only the fourth ever issued by the Postal Service — commemorates the 250th anniversary of our nation's postal system and celebrates the enduring influence of stamps on our shared heritage. Two self-adhesive sheets of a new intaglio printed stamp featuring Benjamin Franklin are available exclusively with the booklet. The stamp is based on an 1875 reproduction of an 1847 5-cent stamp, one of the first official U.S. postage stamps. The cover of the booklet includes a crop of the 1969 First Moon Landing Forever stamp that was released in 2019. I inquired with the USPS if additional space-related stamps were included inside the booklet, but they are keeping its content secret until its release. |

collectSPACE New prestige booklet puts a [space] stamp on the USPS's 250-year experienceSpace exploration is among the most popular themes for U.S. postage stamps according to a new booklet released in celebration of 250 years of mail delivery in the United States. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) marked its semiquincentennial with "Putting a Stamp on the American Experience," a 32-page prestige booklet dedicated to the subjects that have resonated with the public. The publication is only the fourth of its type to come from the postal service. |

The USPS is also currently holding a "Stamp Encore Contest," allowing the public to vote for a previous stamp design to be reissued in 2026. The candidate stamps do not include any space exploration subjects, but the Total Solar Eclipse is among the 25 choices. Voting is open online and by mail through Sept. 30, 2025. Although a "space" stamp isn't among the initial images, you can search and vote for a favorite previous stamp design to be considered for reissue. Interestingly, I tried to search on the 1969 C76 moon landing issue but it didn't come up in the search results. | |
