New 'Great Leaps in Space' enamel pins celebrate astronaut missions

As it turns out, "Giant Leaps in Space" are more popular than "Historic Robotic Spacecraft," at least when it comes to the sale of collectible pins.

Chop Shop Studio, a Pennsylvania-based design firm that focuses on space and science, has kicked off a crowdfund to produce a series of pins "celebrating the most important missions in human spaceflight history." Launched on BackerKit on Aug. 11, the Vostok, Apollo and International Space Station-focused campaign has already surpassed $6,000 from more than 130 people with two weeks more to go.

Our new pin series celebrates the missions that actually got humans into space: Vostok, Apollo, and the International Space Station (ISS). Like our spacecraft series, each pin runs about 2" with a double rubber clasp backing — this time we're varying the metal colors to match each mission's aesthetic.

That's not all...

The series goes beyond Apollo, ISS, and Vostok. We've added two new designs—the Space Shuttle and Apollo's Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). Plus, hitting our stretch goals unlocked two vehicle-only pins: the Apollo Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) and Yuri Gagarin's Vostok 1 capsule.
