I recently acquired parts for the launch escape rocket for a Project Mercury spacecraft model I originally thought to be for the Topping/McDonnell model. They do not match that one, though. Can anyone ID the model this was on? My guess is that it was on a NASA in-house produced model. |

Glad the package arrived safely, David! The motor casing is from a 1/23 scale Redstone of the type seen here. The remainder is from a Danbury Mint capsule model. I acquired the smashed escape tower and used the more detailed Danbury Mint motor casing on my 4-foot Redstone model, replacing this less detailed version. |

Well that clears up my thoughts on these. I really thought they were Danbury Mint but knew the motor was wrong. Makes sense now. |

Thanks for the information. Now I need a Mercury spacecraft model of the same scale to go with these parts.A 1/24th scale (a far more typical scale for models than 1/23rd) model should be close enough, but I am not aware of any such kit - only the 1/48th Revell/Monogram, 1/12th Atomic City, and the uncommon 1/32nd CollectAir kits. |

Daron Executive series had a very detailed 1/24 scale capsule with interior and detachable hatch. Would require some work to make it fit the LES. |
