I'm the owner of several real Apollo space food items, and judging from the photos these look about as close to the real deal as one could possibly hope for. The real space food items from the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo era have suffered from inevitable degradation over the decades, because even despite the best of controlled conditions, no one can stop chemistry from happening to both the packaging and its contents. So in some ways, these might be even better for space food fans to see what the originals looked like. I've ordered several of them myself. I wish Ryan much success with this project and his new Etsy site in general. We're lucky to have him in our community. |

I ordered several of these Apollo food replicas, and I can report that they are outstanding. These are very high fidelity to actual Apollo food items - the main discernable difference being the weight (real food weighs more than most artificial material, no way around that) and as Robert noted in his article the packaging is not as thick (two-ply as opposed to the real deal's three-ply).But given the increasing fragility of the actual vintage space food, these are the ones I'm going to pull out for show and tell, and keep the real ones in more controlled conditions with minimal handling. Ryan told me he very quickly sold out of the original run but is planning to make more. If you're at all interested in what Apollo food looked like, these are outstanding replicas and I give them a big thumbs up. | |
