November 22, 2025 — Uncle Traveling Matt is finally going to discover that "Outer Space" is more than just the human world above Fraggle Rock.
Together with nephew Gobo and friend Red, the Fraggles are set to come face-to-face with NASA's real-life space explorers in the new stage show, "Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure," debuting at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida on Monday, Dec. 22. The comedic musical, produced in cooperation with The Jim Henson Company, centers on the missions launched from the spaceport.
"Fans of all ages will be able to see Uncle Traveling Matt, Red, Gobo and Cotterpin Doozer live and in person," John Tartaglia, the show's director, writer and choreographer, as well as creative supervisor for 'Fraggle Rock' at The Jim Henson Company. "'Fraggle Rock' has always embraced the idea that anything is possible when we work together and celebrate our interconnected world, and NASA is such an incredible example of that idea. With our Fraggles and Doozers meeting new friends from NASA, there will be music, comedy and so much to explore!"
The show opens with Gobo, Red and — making his live stage debut — Uncle Traveling Matt following a mysterious postcard all the way to the Space Coast and Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Once there, they meet a member of the Exploration Ground Systems crew and learn about NASA's Artemis moon missions and connect with a real astronaut from the International Space Station.
"Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure celebrates the joy of discovery and the spirit of curiosity that has always defined the NASA story we share here," said Therrin Protze, chief operating officer at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, in a statement. "We're honored to partner with The Jim Henson Company, known for its innovation, imagination and storytelling for young audiences and families, to create a show that will inspire dreamers of all ages to look up, explore and picture their own place among the stars."
The production features full-body costumed "walkaround" versions of the Fraggles and puppet versions of the Doozers all provided by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. "A Space-y Adventure" blends Henson's style of storytelling and artistry with the science of space exploration. Audiences will learn "that everyone, no matter how big or small, can make a difference in the universe," according to a description by the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
Written, choreographed and directed by John Tartaglia ("Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock") and produced and designed by The Producers Group, "Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure" will be performed twice daily at 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. in the Universe Theater at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The production, which is included with admission, replaces "All Systems Are Go!" a Peanuts-themed puppetry show that closed in March and featured NASA's safety mascot and deep space exploration advocate Snoopy.
The visitor complex is also planning a daily character breakfast featuring the stars of "Fraggle Rock: A Space-y Adventure" from Dec. 21 though 30 (closed Dec. 25). Guests will have the chance to meet the Fraggles up close and partake in themed menu items.
Since premiering in 1983, "Fraggle Rock" has focused on a group of furry, subterranean creatures who learn the value of interconnectedness as they live alongside their industrious neighbors the Doozers and the enormous and often terrifying Gorgs. Traveling Matt explores the outside world populated by humans, reporting back through postcards sent back to Gobo.
Developed from the start to be an international production, the original show aired for five seasons. A reboot, "Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock" began streaming on Apple TV in 2022. |
