Swatch: Apply by Apollo 11 anniversary to buy '1969' MoonSwatch

July 16, 2026

— Swatch is celebrating the 57th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission with a new, limited edition gold model of its popular MoonSwatch. You can buy it if you can land one of the 1,969 spots available by applying online.

The new Mission To The Moon 1969 MoonSwatch features a dial, hands, crown and pushers made from Omega's proprietary 18k "Moonshine" Gold. The gold originates from Omega spare parts that date back to the Apollo era as a tribute to the historic mission. Like all MoonSwatch models, the overall design of the watch is based on Omega's Speedmaster, the first wristwatch worn on the lunar surface.

This new 42mm model incorporates logos, typography and gold hallmarks used in 1969, as well as a battery cover with a gold-colored moon design that displays the date of the Apollo 11 Moon landing ("July 21, 1969" in Central European Standard Time) and a boot print referencing the first step taken on the Sea of Tranquility,

The same date (57 years later) is the deadline to apply for a chance to purchase the watch for $570 (US).

"Limited to just 1,969 individually numbered pieces, this exclusive edition is available only through an approved Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application (ESTA)," reads s Swatch social media post about how to enter. "The applications are open until July 21, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CEST [5:59 p.m. EDT on July 20]."

The ESTA is loosely based on the application that travelers from many countries have to fill out in order to gain entry to the United States. Once started, applicants have two hours and 15 minutes to complete the ESTA, "the same amount of time astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin spent performing experiments on the lunar surface," writes Swatch.

The 1969 selected participants will be chosen by an internal jury from everyone who completes the ESTA's questions correctly. If approved, participants will be instructed on how to complete their purchase of the Mission To The Moon 1969 MoonSwatch and when to pick it up at their preferred Swatch store.

Selected participants will have a specific time frame to complete their purchase. If they do not, they lose their chance to buy the watch and another qualified entrant will be notified.

This is the first time Swatch has used an application process to buy a limited or open edition MoonSwatch. All prior models either remain available through the Swatch stores or, in the case of some, website, or were first come, first served and have sold out.

The original MoonSwatch watches were themed to the planets, Earth's moon and the sun. Later releases celebrated features on our home planet ("Mission on Earth"); added touches of gold ("Mission to the Moon-Moonshine Gold") and added NASA's safety mascot Snoopy to models featuring Moonphase and Earthphase dials. Swatch also offered a "1965" edition to mark the anniversary of NASA selecting the Omega Speedmaster chronograph for use by its Gemini and Apollo astronauts.
