I am really excited to post on this forum.

Can't wait to get started on two fantastic kits, a J2 and an NK-33 rocket engine by Accura Space Models in 1/12 scale. Not sure if you are familiar with these SLA models, you can check them out here.

They also a beautiful (and huge) F1 engine in 1/12, approximately 19" high. Fantastic level of detail. Hope you enjoy!

I thought I'd share my finished model of an NK-33 in 1/12, what a fantastic and detailed kit by Accura Space models.

Next one on the modelling bench is an Accura Space Models RS-25 in 1/12...

These are great photos. How is the RS-25 build going?

Very tempted to buy an RS-25 or J2 engine, so keen to get any feedback on quality of parts, amount of clean-up required, etc., etc. Thanks!

I have not started the RS-25 yet.

What I can tell you is that the quality of these models is phenomenal. They practically need no cleaning or sanding. The layout and construction sequence is well thought out. The fit is excellent and they are all precisely rendered from cad models. I was also skeptical in the beginning until I put together my first Accura Space rocket engine!

I think the challenge so to speak is to paint the rocket so that it looks realistic. The key is a good black primer, followed by a few good coats of metallic paints. If you can use automotive-grade paints even better. I used Alclad and Valejo metallics.

I think you will enjoy building this model. I found that a good undercoat of gray primer is key (I used Motip spray), followed by a metallic undercoat, preferably gloss black. Then you can apply the relevant metallic colors, Alclad or Vallejo or other. I leave the wash effect up to you, depending on what you want to achieve.
I will also share more info on my RS-25 build...

I've ordered the V2 engine. Accura was very helpful and responsive to all of my questions. At the time (2 weeks ago) they were in the midst of printing a batch of RS-25 engines, and they will print mine once those are finished.

The V2 engine has several different colors, so I'll be painting it in pieces and subassemblies before final assembly.

In addition to ggovasp's painting recommendations, which are spot on, initially cleaning the parts with mild dish soap and warm water and allowing them to air dry is also essential. Accura probably already cleans them, but it doesn't hurt to make sure.
