ISS Expedition 67: Russian Spacewalk 53 Two Russian cosmonauts will again work outside the International Space Station on Thursday (April 28), conducting the second spacewalk in a series dedicated to activating a new robotic arm. Expedition 67 flight engineers Oleg Artemyev and Denis Matveev of Roscosmos will begin the planned six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk at 10:30 a.m. EDT (1430 GMT) by exiting the Poisk module on the space-facing side of the station's Russian segment. During the spacewalk, the cosmonauts will jettison thermal blankets used to protect the arm during its July 2021 launch with Nauka. They will also flex the arm’s joints, release launch restraints and monitor the arm's ability to use two grapple fixtures. Once active, the European Robotic Arm (ERA) will be used to move spacewalkers and payloads around the Russian segment of the station. Artemyev will wear a Russian Orlan spacesuit with red stripes. Matveev will wear a spacesuit with blue stripes. This will be the fifth spacewalk in Artemyev’s career, and the second for Matveev. It will be the fifth spacewalk at the station in 2022 and the 250th for International Space Station assembly, maintenance and upgrades.
