The Museum of Flight is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. As part of our celebration, we are launching a public project titled, "Astronauts on the Town."
The concept for this project is an extension of the Museum's "Now everyone can be an astronaut" campaign that originated in 2012. The Museum of Flight's 'Astronaut,' a vivacious, curious character in a spacesuit, has become an established feature in our social media and advertising. Our friendly Astronaut (who seems to be quite the Northwesterner) never fails to draw attention both in-person and online.
We are expanding on this idea and engaging the community with this exciting public art project. "
Astronauts on the Town" will feature 25 six-foot fiberglass astronaut sculptures, designed and decorated by local artists and community groups. All astronauts will be displayed in a variety of different public locations within the greater Seattle area during the spring and summer of 2015.
