Blue Origin Rocket Engine Arrives at Museum On March 17, the Museum’s 50-year-old NASA Space Shuttle Trainer began sharing its space with a new state-of-the-art rocket engine developed by Kent, Washington space company Blue Origin. The BE-3U engine was delivered via flatbed and installed near the towering Shuttle Trainer in the Charles Simonyi Space Gallery. The prototype BE-3U engine was designed to power the upper stage of Blue Origin's giant reusable New Glenn rocket that launched for the first time only a couple months ago. Standing nearly 15 feet tall with a weight of over a ton, the engine is the largest object on display in the Museum’s exhibit focusing on the latest in rocket science and space programs today. On March 18, the Museum installed a 16-foot, 1:20 scale model of the New Glenn orbital rocket next to the BE-3U engine.
