The AAS is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2006 Emme Award for Astronautical Literature.
Peter J. Westwick, Olin Fellow, International Security Studies, Yale University, was selected as the recipient of the 2006 Emme Award for [i]Into the Black - JPL and the American Space Program, 1976-2004[/i]. This comprehensive book, published by Yale University Press, recounts the extraordinary story of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's accomplishments, failures and evolution from 1976 to the present day.
In addition, Maura Mackowski, noted aerospace historian, was recognized with an Honorable Mention for [i]Testing the Limits - Aviation Medicine and the Origins of Manned Space Flight,[/i] published by Texas A&M University Press.
The [URL=http://astronautical.org/awards/eugene-m-emme-award/]Emme Award[/URL] was established in 1982 and named in honor of the first NASA Historian. It recognizes an outstanding book that contributes the most to public understanding about the impact of the astronautics on society and its potential for the future. The Emme Award was presented during the AAS National Conference in November in Houston, TX, USA.
