This patch was inspired by a photo I took in late March of the Artemis I Space Launch System (SLS) on the pad from the road to the Canaveral National Seashore. My point of view was northwest of LC-39B. In creating this patch with Dr. Jorge Cartes, I wanted to imagine the scene at dawn. The waning crescent moon is in the sky, the Sun is just breaking the horizon. To be more attractive and powerful I enhanced the morning colors. The "Artemis" figure from my previous commemorative is ghost stitched into the background, aiming her arrow towards the moon — the destination of Artemis 1. Fifty years ago I had a similar point of view from just southeast of LC-39A when Apollo 17 was poised for launch. Witnessing the launch of our last moon rocket put me on my career path. I dedicate this patch to the young professionals, "The Artemis Generation," who will make this happen and two my grandsons' generation who will one day see us fly to Mars. I hope they are as inspired by Artemis as I was with Apollo.
