Association Blazer Badge. The process started in December of last year when I was put in contact with the OFK office at JSC. They passed me the regulations and procedures on how to get an article onto a flight. After obtaining a memorandum of agreement between NASA and the Association, we sent the badge (basically a fancy, gold threaded patch) in April (six weeks prior to launch) to JSC, and it was added to the flight's OFK manifest. Post flight, the OFK office put together an amazing presentation collage that included the badge, a flown mission patch and a certificate of authenticity. My thanks go out to the great folks in the OFK office who made this process incredibly easy, astronaut CAPT Jeff Ashby, USN, who put me in contact with the proper people at JSC, and to the gentlemen of the H.M.S. HOOD Association. 67 years and one week prior to the launch of DISCOVERY, 1,418 men made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country.
