NASA History posted this image of Fred Haise a few days ago. Who is standing next to Haise?

Ed Hengeveld posted this rarely-seen uncropped image back in 2022:

That’s a great photo of Haise and Engle together — presumably taken in the 60s. And by 1976 they would both be assigned as the first pilots to fly the space shuttle Enterprise!

So this was on the occasion of both Engle and Haise becoming NASA astronauts (Group 5) in April 1966.

Ed also posted this photo of astronauts Haise, Ed Mitchell, Charlie Duke, Al Worden and Engle - all Group 5 astronauts. Great photos, Ed.

The first two pictures with Fred Haise remind me of "Spot the Difference" competitions in newspapers and magazines. They aren't the same picture, but are clearly taken at the same time, obviously as part of a set of pictures.

The order they are standing in the photo almost matches their future flight assignments: Apollo 13, 14, 16, 15 and (might have been) 17.

All times are CT (US)
