Trying to finalize a list of astronauts who served as white room personnel for projects Mercury and Gemini. Here is what I have so far:
  • Mercury 3: John Glenn
  • Mercury 4: John Glenn
  • Mercury 6: Scott Carpenter
  • Mercury 7: Wally Schirra
  • Mercury 8: Gordon Cooper
  • Mercury 9: ? (maybe Alan Shepard)?

  • Gemini 3: Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford
  • Gemini 4: Frank Borman and Jim Lovell
  • Gemini 5: ??
  • Gemini 7: ??
  • Gemini 6: ??
  • Gemini 8: Pete Conrad and Dick Gordon
  • Gemini 9: Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin
  • Gemini 10: ??
  • Gemini 11: ??
  • Gemini 12: Gordon Cooper and Gene Cernan?
I think for both projects the backup crew members served as the White Room crew to help prepare the capsule and crew ingress.

Any input would be appreciated.

Am I wrong or wasn't the back-up crew the same as the white room crew for Gemini? If so, Gemini 5's backup crew/White Room crew were Neil Armstrong and Elliot See.

There's an interesting NASA photo (64-Gemini I-31) showing Grissom, Armstrong, See and Cooper together with Guenter Wendt in the white room.

For Gemini V, both Armstrong and See are seen at launch control complex 19 block house, both wearing NASA flight overalls (65-H1483).

All times are CT (US)
