As we know that John Young was the longest serving at NASA, having served over 42 years, followed by Vance Brand, serving for over 41 years, does anybody know who next is on the list?

Also can anyone can provide a breakdown list of all astronauts and how long they served at NASA?

There are some very good statistical tables to be found on the SpaceFacts website.

If you look at the Astronauts (Alphabetical order list) it's possible to work it out. They are excel tables so you could possibly use a sort function.

Off the top of my head, some other quarter-century + "lifers" include:
  • Gordon Fullerton (39 years~in addition to 3 years as a USAF/MOL astronaut before that);
  • Shannon Lucid, Steve Nagel (30 years and counting);
  • Steve Hawley (30 years and leaving);
  • Jerry Ross, Dave Leestma (28 years and counting).
  • Robert Parker (28 years).
  • Marsha Ivins has been an astronaut for 24 years, but was with NASA JSC for 10 years before that.
  • Anna Fisher was selected 30 years ago, but she went on leave for almost 10 years, so I'm not sure if that counts.

If the question was, as stated, "longest serving at NASA," then Parker should be much longer than 28 years. He may, in fact, be next down the list after Young, Brand and Fullerton. He joined in August 1967 and retired in August 2005.

Fullerton did not make it to 39 years as I understand it - officially, he came to NASA in August/Sep 1969 and left in December 2007.

I should have said 38 years for Parker (1967-2005).

What about Story Musgrave 1967-1997?

Of course; how could I forget Story?!

In another year, Ellen Baker, John Casper, and Marsha Ivins (if you discount her first 10 non-astronaut years at NASA) will hit the quarter century mark. In 2 years, Mike Baker, Bob Cabana, Linda Godwin.

Thinking about astronauts with the longest NASA career, the usual top five comes to mind:
  1. John Young: 42 years
  2. Robert Parker: 38 years
  3. Bruce McCandless: 24 years
  4. Donald Slayton: 23 years
  5. Joseph Kerwin: 22 years
Interestingly Anthony England (18 years) and John Bull (13 years) returned after resigned as astronaut to work as scientists.

Editor's note: Threads merged.
