Shannon Lucid mentions in her 2020 book Tumbleweed, on p.138, that Yuri Usachov said, "every Progress was given the name of a horse by the Mir crew." She suggested an American name, but they went with "Pegasus" for M-31; unfortunately, she does not mention the name of the second Progress, M-32.

Has anyone come across any other names for the Progress craft? It is an interesting personalisation of the vehicle, and were other names used apart from horses! And why horses? Was it a connection to pack horses or something else.

Also, was it only adopted for Mir or does the system continue on ISS, or even earlier on Salyut 6 or 7?

All times are CT (US)
