A Chicago nonprofit called Stories of Space does this interesting thing where they encode submitted space stories of all types onto digital media and then fly it in space. No fee involved — it's free. There are those who might say it's a little gimmicky, but to me is in the vein of people's signatures being on a DVD affixed to the Mars rovers. I think it's a unique angle on outreach and a cool way to engage people with what's happening in space.
Anyway, they have a new launch coming up where stories will be encoded onto media affixed to the Astrolab Flex lunar rover. So, assuming mission success, these stories would actually land on the moon!
I learned about this just recently and unfortunately the deadline for story submission is coming up tomorrow (on 16 December). But if you've ever wanted to send your story to the Moon, well, now's your chance.
