I was wondering whether anyone here has come across IGG-01, the Chang'e-5 lunar soil simulant developed by the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGGCAS). I have an acrylic presentation specimen, individually numbered No. 0085, with its original numbered presentation box and information cards. I received it personally as a gift during a visit to IGGCAS in Beijing earlier this year, where I met with Dr. Wei Yang and Dr. Chi Zhang and discussed their Chang'e lunar research and micro-CT work.
IGG-01 itself is well documented scientifically. Its development was published as: Ruan R., Yang W., Zhang D., et al. (2024), "A moderate-Ti lunar mare soil simulant: IGG-01," Acta Astronautica, Vol. 224, pp. 148–160.
What I haven't been able to determine is much about these numbered acrylic presentation specimens. I have searched quite extensively but haven't found another one offered for sale or even a photograph of another numbered example. Has anyone here encountered one before, or know anything about how many of these presentation specimens were produced or how they were distributed?
To be clear, this is lunar soil simulant, not actual Chang'e-5 lunar material. I'll add a few photographs of No. 0085 and its original packaging. Would be very interested to hear if anyone recognizes it.
