As always, I really appreciate the help of this community. I recently purchased the piece below. I believe that it is from the Apollo lunar module (NAS 9-1100 contract) but would like help identifying what it would have been used for. My best guess is that it held something down. The size is 23" long x 1 5/8" wide at the ends. It is a rubber coated flexible rectangular and spring-like. The cable in the photo is about 14" long and 1/2" in diameter, fabric wrapped. Possibly a grounding cable? Any idea what era this would have been from?

Based on the last picture, the long black item appears to be a flexible waveguide for microwave frequencies. If you have measurements of the rectangular opening you can determine the intended frequency of use to see if it aligns with the S-Band radio communication frequencies used in the LM (2.1-2.3GHz). |

Thanks for the response. The opening is 7/8" x 3/8". Where would this be located? I would love to find it in a photo to show my students. Thanks. |

I measured the opening with calipers and it most closely matches 22.86mm x 10.16mm, 8.20 to 12.40 GHz. What was that frequency used for? Also, if ground support, can I assume that it was not part of the lunar module but rather used on a piece of earth-based equipment? |
