I have always had a fascination with Alexei Leonov's first space walk, to be the first person to leave the safety of the capsule and walk in space must have been amazing.Anyway I have collected a number of items over the years (including an excellent model produced by Steve Nichols). Most of my items are artist prints and as there doesn't seem to be as big an interest in Russian achievements compared to the those of the USA, I had never really considered the issue of forgeries or copies. I didn't think the value of Leonov prints would be high enough for people to bother. However I recently acquired a First Walk print that I have some concerns about, it also made me think about other items I have. I would be grateful for any opinions on the authenticity of the two examples I have: one | two ...and also I would be interested in opinions on what an original would be worth. I paid $50 and thought that was a good price (on the assumption it was authentic). |

I don't see any reason to question it. Leonov has a few variations to his signature and in this case he appears to have given it special care. As for price, these normally go for $100-150. |

Thanks for your reply, my main concern is with the item in the "one" folder. It has no number on the bottom left and the certificate has no Edition Number, Edition Size, Number of Artists Proofs or Date like the item in the "two" folder. |

I have multiple copies of a yet another different edition of this print, it is an unnumbered unsigned edition and has black writing instead of red writing on it. I bought a job lot of them a few years ago, and had so many I gave most away at Autographicas when Leonov was attending. Leonov has always been most accommodating when signing them and usually signs on the actual image rather than the border. I wouldn't worry too much about your unnumbered one, it could just be that PCG had a nice round 1000 printed and had numbered the 950, but Leonov signed them all! Your unnumbered one could be rarer than the official edition! lol |

I was also able to obtain a few of the unnumbered versions and was able to get him to sign one in gold on the actually print area during the UACC San Antonio show. I have a few extras (unsigned/unnumbered) that I will need to put up on Astro Auction one day. |
