You should forward it to the following: [email protected] and let them know about it. I checked my credit card info and it was up to date. ------------------ John Macco Shady Side, MD [This message has been edited by Apollo-Soyuz (edited January 02, 2005).] |

100% fake. The key thing to look at in these messages are the links it tries to send you to. This example is very crude as they don't even try to disguise the destination that the "click here" link sends you to - a raw IP address. Usually the site name is a bogus collection of bits and pieces with ebay somewhere in there but as the real eBay site points out a real eBay message will always send you to "signin.ebay.[yourcountry]". Be sure to check the real target of the link too rather than the text shown in the messages. It's easy to have the text give the real address but make the link point to their bogus site. |

By all means, disregard. If it has a link in the email, it's to route you to somewhere other than ebay or paypal. Simply hit your forward button, in the address line, type "spoof@_____.com" (put ebay or paypal in the blank), and send it on. They will notify you as to whether they had really sent it, or not. (I even got one of these which had my regional bank's logo on it!...scam artists!) If you ever get one similar from YOUR bank, call them first to verify!)------------------ autohnd on ebay Va. Some of these phishing (as they are also known) emails are really good. I was fooled by an "eBay" one a year or so ago but luckily caught my mistake right after I made it. The one saving grace with these things is if you fall for one, you're usually OK if you catch it pretty quickly and change your password. That's because thousands of these phish emails are sent out at a time and about a third or so of the really good ones "get a bite". That means probably thousands of accounts the criminals have to go through before they get to yours. So you have time to catch your mistake.Like I said, some of these are very good. Sometimes I will get one that I think may be real, but I'll forward it to spoof@..... just for the heck of it. Sure enough, every time I will get an email back telling me the email I received was not legitimate.

I believe I saw something about a week ago that ebay stated they will not send anyone any information via their emails any longer. It will now be in your "My Account" page when you log on and go to that page. |

Watch out also for similar scams which look as though they've come from paypal. I must get at least two for eBay and two for paypal per week. I always report them to [email protected] or [email protected] . Hopefully they'll track these ba***rds down and end them!!Cheers, Derek |

Mike, I received the exact same emails supposedly from PayPal and ebay. The "Paypal" came just before Christmas and the "ebay" on 1/3/05. I sent both PP and ebay an inquiry but have not received a reply. Imagine that. |
